Cuban Embassy in Nigeria



Cuban ambassador to Nigeria, H.E. ELIO SAVON OLIVA

The Cuban embassy in Nigeria is located at Plot 339, Diplomatic Zone, area 10, Garki, Abuja.
This Caribbean country’s Ambassador to Nigeria is Mr. Elio Savon Oliva.
The Deputy Head of mission for press and culture is Mr. Pedro Luis Despaigne Gonzalez. Mrs. Dolores Manuela Meras Morejon is the embassy’s commercial and cooperation officer, Mrs. Raisa Buron Anglada is the consular officer, and Mrs. Teresa Lamoru Preval is the administrative officer.
The embassy operates every Monday to Friday from 9a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2pm to 4.30p.m.

Procedures for applying for Cuban visa
Business visa:

A completely filled application form should be accompanied with substantiated economic solvency bank statement, valid and legal documents accrediting the applications are substantiated businesspersons or their representatives and evidences to confirm contacts with Cuban enterprises and business proposals.
 Also, applicants should submit a confirmed round air ticket, medical insurance policy (original and one photocopy).

It takes at least 15 days for the Consulate to issue visas from the date it receives the completely filled application forms.
Tourist visa:

For this type of visa, the applicant needs to submit alongside with the confirmed return or continuation air ticket and substantiated economic solvency (bank statement), confirmed hotel reservation, a legalised document by the Notary assuring that the applicant will go to Cuba only as a tourist.
Holders of tourist visas are allowed to stay in Cuba for 30 days from the date of entry into the country, and it is usually valid for only one entry. An applicant who wishes to stay beyond 90 days would be required to ask for an extension of another two months at any tourism office in Cuba.

Children regardless of their ages are also required to process a tourist visa, even if they are registered on their parents’ passports.
It is important to note that tourist visa is only applicable when a visitor is staying at a hotel or at a private house legally rented in Cuba.
Personal visa:

This category of visa is only given to people with close relatives in Cuba or those married to a Cuban citizen.
A photocopy of marriage certificate is required in addition to other documents for the processing of a personal visa. The processing of personal visa is completed at least 15 days from the date the consulate receives the application.


Visa fees:
Fee for processing tourist visa when application is done personally is $55 USD in cash (Naira not allowed). When the application is done through a proxy, and additional $25 USD is required for impersonal procedure making the total fee $80 USD.

Business visa fees are $55 USD. Additional $25USD is required when application is not personally done.
For personal visa, applicants are also expected to pay $25USD in addition when the application of the visa is not personally done.


Inviting Cuban citizen to visit Nigeria
All invitations to Cuban nationals to visit Nigeria, since May 2007, is required to be done in the presence of a lawyer, a notary public or a commissioner of oath with the complete data of the person being invited and the person making the invitation. 

The legal document produced by the lawyer, notary public, commissioner of oath, etc., will be sent or brought to the Cuban consular offices to be certified. A new document will be produced by the consular offices and then it will be sent to “Consultoria Juridica Internacional” (CJI), institution that will contact the invited person to continue the process.
Consular Officer will emit the Certification of Invitation to be sent to the people invited through the channels officially established, so that it can satisfy the requirement settled down by the Law, of presenting to the Cubans migratory authorities this Certification. 

Consular Officers are authorized to request the confirmations with relationship to the kinship or friendship between the people who invite and the person(s) invited. Equally, Consular Officers are authorized to reject the invitation if they find elements that advise to act in this way. 
A photocopy of the main page of the passport of the person who invites must be provided as well.

The fee for inviting a Cuban to Nigeria is $140.00 USD. If the request is not done directly by the people invited, an extra $20.00 USD must be added for Non Person Procedure. This fee must be paid in cash.
The invitation is valid for one year to allow the person to choose the appropriate moment to travel.
The invited person must be 18 years old or older.
